Paste in Maramures II
Wow what a great feeling to wake up completely surrounded by...nature!!!We met in the dining room to have a power breakfast (sunca, ou, paine, dulciuri, dulceata, etc.) plus authentic Georgian milk ( Lado showed me how to do it - just put salt into the milk! Western Europeans might not be used to it but I swear it tastes fantastic!) Then we had a bus ride to the Village museum, that was an open-air museum where traditional wooden houses & churches had been set up, with all the interior and agricultural tools in them. One of the highlights were the wooden gates, of course!!! The boys had a playful hayfork-fight and we dumped Lado into the traditional well:) On we went to the Cimitirul Vesel (Funny Cemetery) in Sapanta, a rather touristic site. The main attraction of Sapanta is this Cemetery where a gifted guy carved colorful wooden "tombstones" where he explained in verse about the people's life and their deaths (some quite macabre ones included). English humor, though. I bought some woollen souvenirs at a artesanate stall in fata cimitirului. On our way home for lunch we saw men & women in typical clothes (and hats) and even a traditional countryside funeral. We had abundant lunch at our guesthouse, after that we decided to go to the mountain and so we hit the road (but how we could know that this saying would become literally!) Having droven quite a while on a bad road, suddenly the engine started making an unhealthy noise and the brakes didn't work too well... Anyway we continued, up into rockier territory, but at last we had to stop when we saw smoke coming out of the front part of our van! While some of us had a break among lush, but swampy vegetation, the boys tried to fix the car. The explorer group (having the break) found a wooden church "parked" in a meadow, a little hut to store hay. On my way back I nearly drowned in the creek (joke!fortunately, it was just my feet getting wet) and meanwhile two helpful lads had managed to get our bus ready to roll again...Before going home we had a nice volleyball game ( more team training than anything else). We went back, sat together and chatted and had another really great dinner. At around half past 11 p.m. we started our walk towards church, for the Easter mass. Once arrived there, we found lots of people going round the church with candles lit in their hands and after that the priest held mass. Especially the Orthodox people among us were deeply devoted. Having finished we went back and into bed... about:miscellaneous13-5-2008 @ 19:38 UTC
